Bikers move fundraising ride indoors to support cancer research despite rain

MADISON (WKOW) — A bike ride to raise money for cancer treatment was cancelled Sunday morning because of heavy rain, but that didn’t stop cyclists from riding anyway.

About half a dozen bikers moved indoors to the Princeton Club to ride the 102 miles on stationary bikes.

They were going to do The Ride in Madison, which supports cancer research at UW-Madison.

For Mario Minnaert, finding a cure is personal.

“One of my best friends from college, he was recently diagnosed with testicular cancer, and I wanted to do something to make an impact for him and for others who have suffered from this disease,” he said.

Minnaert has raised more than $3,000. The Ride itself is just shy of its $250,000 goal.
