Rock County medical examiner identifies Whitewater man killed in hit-and-run

MADISON (WKOW) — The Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office released the name of the man Thursday killed in a Wednesday hit-and-run near Janesville.

Fifty-nine-year-old Whitewater resident Michael L. Bacon was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to a release from the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy confirmed Bacon died from injuries he received in the crash.

The driver, Branko Jovanovic, 29, of Lyons, Illinois and his attorney met detectives at the Rock County Sheriff’s Office and he was subsequently arrested for Hit and Run causing death.

Witnesses told deputies that a motorcycle was on the off-ramp of I39/90 turning westbound onto Highway 11 about 8 a.m. Sept. 25, when a westbound semi tractor-trailer, also on E. Highway 11, failed to stop at a red traffic signal and ran over the motorcyclist.

After hitting the motorcycle, the semi continued westbound on Highway 11 and fled the area.

The medical examiner’s office said additional testing is underway and the death remains under investigation by the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.
