Pelton-Byce comes home to play for Badgers

MADISON (WKOW) — In many ways, Ty Pelton-Byce seemed born to be a Badger. The Madison native’s dad, John Byce, played hockey for the Badgers. Ty’s mother, Alicia Pelton, was a track athlete at Wisconsin.

“You know, growing up, I was always coming to the Badgers games,” Pelton-Byce says of his childhood. “Dancing to the band and all of that kind of stuff. So, it’s pretty cool to be here, but at the same time, I think I deserve to be here. So, I’m going to go out there and try to perform like I can.”

Pelton-Byce took a long roard to play for his hometown team. After excelling at Madison Memorial, he went to Harvard to begin his collegiate career. He played in 66 games before leaving school following a struggle with depression and his grades. Pelton-Byce was forced to sit out last season and watch. Now, he is back on the ice.

“Even though he hasn’t played a lot of hockey in the past year and a half, you know he should be ready to go,” says head coach Tony Granato. “I’m going to expect him to be a big part of this starting Friday night.”

The Badgers open the season Friday night at Boston College.
