MILWAUKEE (WKOW) — American Idol auditions wrapped up Wednesday night in Milwaukee and one of the last contestants to sing in front of judges was a man from Milton.
At just 23-years-old Zac Matthews has already made a name for himself. He’s the lead singer and guitarist for the Zac Matthews Band, performing on stages across southern Wisconsin.
After auditioning and getting a front of the line pass in our WKOW Idol contest, Matthews marched forward with his dream. Heading straight to American Idol.
“I think it’s a great opportunity to get notoriety from these type of people,” he said.
WKOW spent time with Matthews and his family before he went in for his audition.
Zac turned to music during a tough time in his childhood.
“I was told every day that I was never going to amount to anything so I would lock myself in my room for hours and play this thing [guitar] and write songs,” Matthews remembered.
Now, he sees that as a defining moment in his life.
“Great things come to those who wait and really put time in,” Zac said.
About a dozen of Zac’s greatest supporters were by his side in Milwaukee on Wednesday.
“I wouldn’t miss it,” said Zac’s Dad, Matthew Molitor. “It’s his Super Bowl.”
Matthews was hoping to let his personality shine through during his audition.
“This is who I am. This is what I was put on this earth to do,” he said. “I hope I get that yes!”
We won’t know if Zac made it to Hollywood until the show airs in the spring on ABC. Stay tuned!
