MADISON (WKOW) — The Urban League of Greater Madison hosted one of the area’s most unique fundraisers Friday.
There were musicians, poets and aerial performers at the Urban Cabaret at Monona Terrace.
WKOW’s George Smith served as the emcee.
The head of the Urban League says money from events like this helps the organization connect people to employment.
“Every $2,000 that we get, we can train a person and put them to work. Right now, we’ve put about 1,400 people in the community into jobs. Our goal is to put 1,500 people into sustainable wage jobs,” said Dr. Ruben Anthony.
He says the Urban League’s goal for the event is to raise $125,000.
They were already at $93,000 going into the event.
