Verona boys soccer claims first State Championship in program history

Verona boys soccer – in its first trip to the WIAA tournament in program history – came away with a State Championship.

The Wildcats dominated in the game, shutting out Neenah, 2-0.  Verona scored its first goal when Gannon Simonett passed to Eliot Popkewitz who finished with the goal in the 14th minute of action.  It stayed a 1-0 game until the 87th minute, when Jonathan Gamez scored another to seal the win.

With the victory, Verona plans to hold a pep rally to welcome the State Champions back to the area.  It will be held at 12pm Sunday at the Verona High School Gym.
