Dogs’ owner could face abandonment and mistreatment charges

DELAVAN (WKOW) — The two emaciated dogs found Thanksgiving night wandering around the Walmart parking lot in Delavan are receiving care, but their owner could face criminal charges.

Delavan police say they have identified a person of interest as they search for the owner. “The owner will be charged with animal abandonment and mistreating animals and will not get the dogs back,” police wrote on a Facebook post.

The dogs currently are at the Lakeland Animal Shelter, which has launched a page to raise money for their care.

After police brought the dogs the animal shelter, they stabilized them in order to save them from the state of severe starvation that they arrived in, according to the animal shelter.

The veterinarian clinic Lake Geneva Animal Hospital did blood work and assessed their vital states in order to determine how much damage had been done to their vital organs.

The only way the shelter is able to provide this essential service to the community to save dogs every day like these little guys is through monetary donation from the community, according to the post.
