UPDATE: Device found on Madison’s east side not explosive

UPDATE (WKOW) -- Authorities say a device discovered on Madison's east side is not an explosive device.

According to officials, the area the device was found in used to be used for military training.

On Saturday afternoon someone called the police alerting them to a device in the area.

The device found appeared to be an old military training device, which had no explosives in it.

Although there were no explosives in the device, officials still treated the situation as if it was a live explosive.

Officials say the item has been removed from the area and there is no threat to the public.


UPDATE -- Madison Police say they have found something, but are unsure if it is an explosive device.

Police are keeping people away from the area for safety.

Madison police have called the Dane County Bomb Squad - EOD to see how they should proceed.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Police are responding to a call for a possible explosive device on Carpenter Street in Madison.

According to Dane County Communications, Madison police are currently heading to the scene.
