Boy fires gun inside Fitchburg home, sets off sprinkler system

FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- A gun was fired inside a Fitchburg residence leading to major damage, said the Fitchburg Police Department.

Officers arrived to the 3300 block of Leopold Way just after 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers learned a single shot was fired in a residence. That shot went through a wall, damaged a sprinkler system and caused flooding in both the residence and adjacent residence.

The adjacent residence is not able to be lived in right now because of the water damage.

The American Red Cross was contacted and is helping with temporary housing for the family.

A male juvenile was taken to the Dane County Juvenile Reception Center.

The investigation is ongoing.
