MADISON (WKOW) -- The Henry Vilas Park Zoological Society, Inc. is handing over $8 million for long term financial support of the Henry Vilas Zoo.
It's the result of an agreement between the society and Dane County that was approved Friday by the board of directors.
The money will go to the Madison Community Foundation to provide long-term financial support of the zoo.
The dollars will be divided into three funds at MCF, each with a slightly different focus.
A permanent endowment will contain more than $1 million.
A fund of nearly $0.6 million can be accessed for any Zoo-related purpose and a fund of more than $6.5 million will be used to support educational initiatives, conservation programs, animal welfare expenses
and capital projects at the zoo.
