MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison officers arrested 18 people in December for car theft or related crimes, and the vast majority were juveniles.
The arrests broke down as 13 children 16 or younger, two 17-year-olds and three adults, according to a police incident.
In that same month, officers took reports for 56 stolen cars. Of those, 54 either had keys in them "or had keys easily accessible to criminals," police said.
Twenty-nine of the cars were unlocked and running when they were stolen.
"The MPD continues to advise community members to lock cars, homes, and to not lot leave vehicles unattended and running," police said.
