MADISON (WKOW) -- A child told police that a group of older kids hit him with sticks on Madison's southside Saturday.

A 12-year-old boy told police a group of teens beat him with sticks on the 2900 block of Traceway Drive around 5:30 p.m., according to a police incident report. He said he was not seriously hurt.

Officers found a group of teens riding bicycles on nearby Post Road and tried to speak with them. All but one of the kids ran away, police said.

The 12-year-old said the 13-year-old who stayed behind was one the people involved in his beating.

Police took the teen to the Juvenile Reception Center on tentative charges of battery with use of a weapon and disorderly conduct.
