EVANSVILLE (WKOW) -- Firefighters in Evansville are trying to figure out what started a fire inside a home.
Dane and Rock County dispatchers said they sent crews from Evansville, Stoughton and Brooklyn to 327 West Liberty Street just after 4 p.m. for a report of a residential fire.
Chief Bob Fahey of the Evansville Fire District say two people live in the home, but they were not there when the fire began. Fahey says those residents found other places to stay.
Fahey says firefighters put out the fire quickly upon arriving at the home, but they remained on scene for hours afterward to make sure the flames had not spread throughout the house.
The chief says pets were kept in the home. Without providing a specific number, he says they have found some pets, but they are not sure if all of the animals will survive.
