Rescue crews save person and dog from icy pond

PALMYRA (WKOW) -- A person and a dog had to be rescued from a pond in the Town of Palmyra.

Officials say the dog fell through the ice just after 3:30 p.m. near State Highway 59 and Piper Road.

When a deputy arrived, there was also a person in the water who was not able to get out on their own.

An officer and a Palmyra firefighter dressed in cold water immersion equipment went into the water, broke ice and rescued the person and dog.

The water was between eight and 10 feet deep.

Both the person and the dog are expected to recover.
