UPDATE (WKOW) – What was originally thought to be a fatal hit-and-run Wednesday has turned into a homicide investigation, the Dane County Sheriff's Office said this afternoon.

Preliminary autopsy results by the Dane County Medical Examiner show the victim's death was not the result of a motor-vehicle crash.

The Dane County Sheriff's Office says it happened sometime between 12:45 and 1:15 p.m. just south of Bergum Road in the Town of Blue Mounds.

The victim is a 26-year-old Blue Mounds man.

Investigators continue to seek the public’s assistance with gathering any information related to this crime.
