UPDATE (WKOW) -- On Thursday morning, crews from Sun Prairie Utilities plan to replace a power pole that was damaged when a car crashed into it on Wednesday.

The car ran into the pole at Bird and Vandenburg Streets just before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Video from a nearby homeowner's surveillance camera shows the car stopping at a stop sign on Vandenburg Street. It takes a left onto Bird Street, but continues over the curb and hits the power pole.

Hundreds of customers lost power, which also caused some traffic lights to go out.

According to an outage map from Sun Prairie Utilities, more than 200 customers were still affected as of late Wednesday night.

Repairs crews at the scene on Wednesday told 27 News they would likely begin repairs after the school day begins on Thursday.


UPDATE (WKOW) -- Bird and Vandenburg Streets are back open, according to an updated news release from the Sun Prairie Police Department.

SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) -- Police are warning people to avoid the area of Bird Street at Vandenburg Street in Sun Prairie due to a crash that has caused a power outage throughout the city, according to a police department news release.

Police and utilities are aware of the outage and are working to get it restored as soon as possible. Some traffic lights are currently down, stop signs have been placed out for traffic.
