MADISON (WKOW) – Rep. Melissa Sargent (D-Madison) on Wednesday announced her candidacy for the state Senate.
Sargent has served in the 48th Assembly District for the past seven years. She announced she's running for Wisconsin's 16th Senate District.
Democrat Mark Miller has represented the 16th District since 2005, serving as minority leader from 2011-2012. Before that, he served in the Wisconsin Assembly beginning in 1999. Tuesday, Sen. Miller announced he would not seek re-election.
Sargent says she faced successes and challenges in the Assembly, but feels there is more work to do. "Wisconsin needs progressive and pragmatic leaders who are accountable to their bosses– the people of our state."
