Wisconsin men’s hockey splits at Notre Dame

Wisconsin drops game two of their weekend series with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Saturday night at the Compton Family Ice Arena, 5-2.

Sean Dhooghe and Roman Ahcan put up goals for Wisconsin in the second and third period respectively, but it wasn't enough to hold off the Irish offense, putting up five goals including three in the second period.

The first period finished scoreless in South Bend with great performances from both goaltenders in between the pipes. Senior goalie Jack Berry put up 32 saves on the night for Wisconsin.

Ahcan's shorthanded goal early in the third brought the Badger's within one of Notre Dame, but a power-play goal from the Irish, followed by an empty-netter held off the Badger comeback and sealed a win for the home team.

Junior Captain Wyatt Kalynuk dished out an assist on each of the two goals tonight bringing him up to 20 total points on the season.

Wisconsin returns home next weekend to take on the Minnesota Gophers in a Border Battle at the Kohl Center. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. Friday and 8 p.m.
