US declares public health emergency, travel restrictions to start Sunday

CHINA (WKOW) -- As of Saturday morning, China is up to nearly 12-thousand confirmed cases of coronavirus.

In the United States, the number of confirmed cases has risen to eight.

The virus has prompted the Trump Administration to declare a public health emergency on Friday.

“While this virus poses a serious public health threat, the risk to the American public remains low at this time, and we are working to keep this risk low,” Health and Human Services Secretary Azar said.

The declaration includes new restrictions on international travelers and foreign nationals believed to be at risk of transmitting the virus. The declaration declares they won't be allowed to enter the country.

The travel restrictions begin on Sunday.
