MADISON (WKOW) -- A coalition of residents in Madison voiced their concerns Sunday about F-35 fighter jets potentially relocating to Truax Field.

The Safe Skies Clean Water Coalition held the session at Madison East High School.

A panel of six speakers covered a variety of topics, examining both the environmental and social impacts of the proposal.

"I have to say I think it's kind of crazy that this is even being considered for such a popular area," said Jennie Capellaro, with the coalition.

"By saying no, that we will not tolerate the F-35s being placed here, I think that we will empower other people in the community to look at other issues like racial disparities and trying to support the most marginalized in our community," said Brian Benford, a former Madison alder.

A final environmental impact study is expected later this month.
