OREGON, Wis. (WKOW) -- Firefly Coffeehouse & Artisan Cheese in downtown Oregon will kick off the 2020 Oregon Public Library Fundraising Campaign on Valentine's Day, donating 50 percent of all sales to help break ground on a new community library in 2021.

More than $1 million to build a new library has already been raised, with an overall goal of raising $4 million, according to a news release.

The "Love Your Library" Valentine's Day event at Firefly Coffeehouse will kick off the official public phase of the campaign.

"The vision of a 21st Century library in the heart of Oregon is so exciting," said Jeanne Carpenter, who also serves as Oregon's elected Village President. "We're building not only an educational monument, but another third space for our community: a place for gatherings full of thoughtful discussion to more our community forward."

In a surprise announcement today, Oregon Community Bank said it will match Firefly Coffeehouse's donation, dollar for dollar, and the 18 employees of Firefly Coffeehouse said they will donate all cash tips to the cause.

"It's going to be our library, too," said Firefly Manager Rachael Sonnenberg. "Many of us have relocated to Oregon to work at the Firefly, and we are excited about a new library."

"The Oregon community is incredibly generous and very excited about the new library," added Steve Peotter, President and Chief Executive Officer of Oregon Community Bank. "We are thrilled to partner with the team at Firefly Coffeehouse to help move the library campaign forward. The match from OCB is the beginning of our plan to support the new library."

The Valentine's Day "Love Your Library" event at Firefly Coffeehouse includes free storytimes for children at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., Noon and 1 p.m. in the kids' play area. Children can also write and decorate love letters to the library, and put them in a special mailbox to be delivered directly to the Oregon Public Library.

Firefly Coffeehouse is open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Valentine's Day, with a free Open Mic Music event starting at 6 pm. Specials all day include $1 kids' hot chocolates and artisan cheese boards for two, including two glasses of wine, for $15.
