UPDATE: Fitchburg Police investigate shooting at apartment complex

UPDATE (WKOW) -- Fitchburg Police are investigating after they say a man was shot several times at an apartment complex.

Police say a 31-year-old man was sitting in his car in the parking lot of the complex in the 5100 block of Anton Drive shortly before 8 p.m. when he called 911 to report the shooting.

Officers say the man drove to the Speedway gas station on Verona Road before they got to the scene. He was taken to the hospital from there. Officials say the man has serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers recovered multiple shell casings at the scene of the shooting.

Police haven't released the name of the victim, or any potential suspect(s) in the case.

UPDATE (WKOW) -- Fitchburg Police have cleared the scene at Anton Dr. and are allowing drivers in and out of the parking lot at New Fountains Apartments.

As of 10:45 p.m. Thursday, police have not confirmed what the nature of the investigation was but officers on scene were putting down evidence markers throughout the New Fountains parking lot.

Police were at the Anton Dr. scene for about three hours. According to dispatchers, they arrived around 8 p.m. after a report of a someone needing an ambulance at that location.

Dispatchers confirmed the Anton Dr. scene was connected to another heavy police presence Thursday night just a few blocks up the road at the Speedway gas station on Raymond Road.

Police were on that scene for little more than an hour. A 27 News crew there saw a vehicle towed away before police left.


FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- There is a large police presence in Fitchburg right now. The area they're focused on is on Anton Drive. Witnesses called into the newsroom hearing multiple gunshots.

The scene is located at the New Fountains Apartments. 27 News has a crew there now. Fitchburg Police are leading the investigation.

Dane County Communications has confirmed that there is also a separate scene at the Speedway on Raymond Road. Our crew there spotted a vehicle being towed away from the scene.

Dispatchers confirmed that scene is connected to what happened at Anton Drive.
