MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- American Idol is back and this season, a Wisconsin city will be front and center as Idol hopefuls audition for a ticket to Hollywood.

Dozens of people from all over the midwest waited to sing for judges Katy, Lionel and Luke at the Milwaukee Art Museum.

"I just want to have my moment," said Zac Matthews from Milton.

Most of the people in the waiting area won't make it to the next round, but the judges told 27 News, "no" isn't the end. It might be the beginning.

"When I was 17 or 18, a freshman in college, the first thing the guy said to me was 'you're five years away from being where you want to be,'" said Lionel Richie. "I thought that was the most insulting thing, but he was exactly right."

Wake Up Wisconsin's Rebecca Ribley was was in Milwaukee during filming in October. She talked with contestants, judges and the hosts of the show.

American Idol: Season 18 premiered Sunday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. on WKOW.
