Dane County Board votes to support UW Health nurses union

MADISON (WKOW) -- During its meeting Thursday night, the Dane County Board of Supervisors came out in support of the UW Health nurses union.

Board members passed a resolution calling on the UW Hospitals and Clinics Authority to recognize the union.

Nurses formed the union two months ago and feel the health system is ignoring them.

UW Health officials have told 27 News they cannot bargain with the union because of Act 10, but they are committed to working with their nurses.

Also at Thursday's meeting, the board approved buying a new site for the county's emergency operations center.

The county will spend just under $2 million for the former Fitchburg fire station on King James Way.

The emergency operations center has to move out of the Public Safety Building in downtown Madison because of the jail consolidation project.
