JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- With schools closing, many students no longer have access to daily meals.
St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Janesville donated food for more than 1,000 bagged lunches.
Jen O'Connell and Ashley Ausen, along with their four children each, organized the "Kindness Karavan," which held a drive-through service Monday for people in the community and delivered more than 50 meals to local homes.
"We realized there are so many kids in our community who rely on schools for meals through the day," Ausen said. "We thought if the school district didn't have something set up right now, it would be a great thing for us to provide meals to these kids so they have a way to get food in their bellies."
O'Connell said the church plays an important role in helping those in need.
"Faith over fear," she said. "That's kind of what we're doing today. I'm not scared. These kids need food and that scares me more than the coronavirus."
They say the drive-through will continue through Thursday, and any extra meals will be donated to a local shelter.
