(WKOW) -- Even though you should only be heading out for essential things, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is reminding you to drive safely, especially around construction.

April 20-24 is known as 'National Work Zone Awareness Week.'

With Wisconsin's safer at home order in place, vehicle traffic is about half the normal rate, so crews are expanding work zones for maintenance without delays.

WisDOT reports, there were more than 2,400 crashes in Wisconsin work zones in 2019.
