MADISON (WKOW) -- In honor of National Nurses Day, Firehouse Subs and a local business owner, army veteran and cancer survivor joined together to donate subs to staff at University Hospital.

Patrick Noonan is the owner of Landfill Reduction & Recycling. He was treated by staff at UW Health during his battle with pancreatic cancer.

Noonan is now a cancer survivor and wanted to say thank you for all health care workers do, especially nurses.

"What they do for the community, what the first responders do for the community, they don't always get the recognition they deserve," he said.

They fed more than 100 staff members at University Hospital.

There was also a first responder salute with an envoy of cruisers and police officers.
