ROCK COUNTY (WKOW) -- Authorities have arrested a man they say provided heroin to an overdose victim.
Michael M. Wopat, 24, faces possible charges of second-degree reckless endangering safety and manufacturing/delivery of heroin, both felonies.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit was investigating the overdose that took place on May 17, 2020 at a convenience store at highways 14 and 51 near Janesville when they suspected Wopat supplied the heroin to the victim.
On May 21, 2020, an investigator located Wopat driving through Janesville. With coordination of a uniformed deputy driving a fully marked sheriff’s office squad car, the patrol deputy stopped Wopat's vehicle and took him into custody.
Wopat was released from custody with a court date of July 6, 2020 at 1 p.m.
