JANESVILLE (WKOW) — YWCA Rock County is launching an expanded virtual fundraiser ahead of this year's Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event in Janesville.
On Thursday, Jennifer Draz with YWCA Rock County joined the Wake Up Wisconsin team to talk about the 14th annual event and fundraiser.
Draz says during the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are finding themselves taking more walks as a way to get out of the house or exercise. That's why virtual fundraising teams, led by ambassadors, are using those extra walking miles to raise money.
The event is the largest fundraiser for YWCA Rock County. The money goes to things like their domestic violence shelter and recovery program.
The fundraising teams will raise money through August 7, when Walk a Mile in Her Shoes will be held at the former Sears building at the Janesville Mall.
"We are still planning an in-person event," said Draz. "We're going to take all sorts of precautions to make sure everyone stays healthy and we'll follow guidelines to make sure that's the case."
