Madison police investigating shooting as homicide after victim dies Monday

UPDATE (WKOW) -- The victim of a shooting Friday in Madison has died.

The Madison man, 81, died at a hospital yesterday and police now are investigating it as a homicide, according to an incident report released Tuesday.

The suspect is 38-years-old. He lived in the same building as the victim and is currently hospitalized for a medical condition. Madison police will release the name of suspect when they are booked into jail, which has not happened as of Tuesday morning.

     Two Hmong translators assisted officers and detectives at the scene. The motive for the attack is under investigation. The victim was shot inside his apartment.

    The Dane County Medical Examiner will determine when his name is released.


MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison police are investigating after they found a person with a gunshot wound near an apartment complex on the city's north side.

Just after 9 p.m. Friday, police were called to the 1800 block of Northport Drive for reports of a person down. When they got there, they were directed to a suspect who may have been armed with a handgun.

After police took the suspect into custody outside, they found the gunshot wound victim inside the nearby apartment.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and is in critical condition.

Now, the Violent Crimes Unit is interviewing the suspect and a witness. They have also collected physical and video evidence.

Police do not think the suspect and victim knew each other.

According to Madison Police, the suspect will be charged with attempted homicide.
