DODGEVILLE (WKOW) -- A few dozen people gathered along the streets in Dodgeville holding signs on Wednesday, condemning the killing of George Floyd.
The organizers say small towns like Dodgeville are not immune to the racial injustices that we see across the country. They wanted to show that their town stands in solidarity with those fighting for equality.
"I didn't expect this many people to come out and it's really comforting to see that there are people in your community that stand up for you and see what's wrong with the system,: said Arriana Miller of Dodgeville.
The group says they experienced a lot of backlash as they organized the event from people afraid their protest would bring violence to Dodgeville.
That gathering stayed peaceful, which was the intent.
Prior to the gathering, city crews could be seen removing planters, garbage bins and any other item that would be easily moved as a precaution.
