Even with no baseball being played yet this summer in Beloit, the Snappers are one step closer to having a new home in Beloit.

Friday night the Beloit City Council approved a lease and development agreement with the Riverbend Stadium Authority for a new stadium in a vacant property between the Beloit Transit System Transfer Center and the Rock River.

"It's something that has been in the making for a long time and now to be so close to be able to get the shovels in the ground and get things moving forward it's really exciting for us," said Jeff Gray, the Snappers General Manager.

"Not just in the baseball side of it, but for the community. It's something that hasn't been seen in the region for a long, long time."

The lease and development agreement is for a 3,500 seat stadium. The agreement is for 20 years.

Construction could start as soon as next week, with baseball being played in the new stadium in 2021.
