MADISON (WKOW) - Cristobal was a highly unusual system and broke records due to its strength and location.
It was the farthest northwest a tropical system has ever gotten in North America, passing through southwest Wisconsin and now approaching Lake Superior.
We've had three other tropical systems in Wisconsin since record-keeping began in the 1850s, but they only clipped the far southeastern part of the state.
Madison also set an all-time June record for lowest pressure. Cristobal caused pressure to drop to 988 mb.
If you felt your ears pop or had achy joints on Tuesday, it may have been due to the quickly falling pressure.
The previous record-low pressure for June was 990.2 mb on June 1, 1936.
Cristobal also brought heavy rain to southern Wisconsin.
Widespread flooding issues stayed out of our area west of the Mississippi River where they picked up 2-4". But in Platteville, we did have a report of water covering the road.
