Badger Conference will not hold fall competition or championships

WIAA Generic

(WKOW) -- The Badger Conference confirmed on Friday that there will not be any fall sports competition or championships due to COVID-19.

Conference officials say the challenges of a conference that has 16 school districts in seven different counties posed too many concerns to play this fall.

The Badger Conference is considering playing fall sports in the spring, a plan that was outlined by the WIAA.

A statement from conference officials read in part:

"We understand the need to be flexible, adaptable, and use creative thinking as we move forward and appreciate the understanding of our school communities as we continue to work together to navigate the COVID-19 situation. Therefore, we are committed to offering opportunities to our students, assuming it is safe and allowable as determined by public health."
