Madison police respond to shooting involving several vehicles, stray bullet hits 9-year-old

MADISON (WKOW) -- A 9-year-old was hit by a stray bullet following a shooting involving several vehicles in Madison on Friday.

According to an incident report, Madison Police officers responded to the 4200 block of Portland Parkway around 5:26 p.m. after getting reports of multiple shots being fired in the area.

Several vehicles including a white sedan, a metallic green SUV and a black SUV were observed speeding through the area when the shots were heard, according to information officers gathered once on scene.

Police say the occupants of the vehicles were likely shooting at each other.

About 250 yards away from where the shots were fired, a 9-year-old was playing outside. A bullet ricochet off the sidewalk hitting the 9-year-old in the shin.

Officials say that the 9-year-old was not seriously injured but receive a small bruise. No other injuries or property damage were reported at this time.
