Police search for driver who hit child on bike

MADISON (WKOW) -- Police are searching for a driver who hit a child on a bicycle and drove off.

According to Madison police, the 7-year-old was hit while riding a bike through a controlled intersection in a pedestrian crosswalk. It happened around 2 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Northport Drive and N. Sherman Avenue.

Police say the driver of the maroon SUV turned right at a red light and ignored the pedestrian traffic, hiting the child.

The victim went airborne. The driver maneuvered around the victim and headed east on Sherman, according to police. Two people were in the SUV.

The child was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and bruises.
