BEAVER DAM (WKOW) -- A Beaver Dam woman was convicted in the crash that killed her passenger.

Cindy Esparza, 24, was found guilty Tuesday of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle relating to the death of a passenger in her car.

The crash happened April 2, 2019.

Dodge County district attorney Kurt Klomberg says Esparza had multiple drinks and shots at a bar before she drove off the bridge at the intersection of Madison St. and Ryan Cantafio's Way in Beaver Dam and the vehicle went into the river.

Klomberg says officers had to pull Esparza out of the back door of the car because the water was too high and the current was strong.

Esparza's passenger could not be saved.

Esparza will be sentenced on October 22.
