Local artists needed for Madison Fire Department mural project

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Madison Fire Department is seeking local artists to submit their vision for a community mural at Fire Station 6 on West Badger Road.

In a news release, fire officials said two wooden boards once used to display maps inside the south side building are ready to be freshened up.

Fire Station 6 invites local artists to submit their vision for a community mural, using one or both of these repurposed boards, to depict the diversity of Madison’s south side and/or to draw from the theme “Unity through Community.”

The participating artists must be based in Madison and will be paid $500 through private funds.

Using the theme "Unity through Community," the department is asking that one or both repurposed wooden boards be used as canvases. They are looking for original work showing the "rich and vibrant diversity of Madison's south side.

Board/Canvas dimensions:

  • 77 inches by 122 inches
  • 80 inches by 80 inches

Submissions will be accepted through Friday, August 21. You can send proposals to fire@cityofmadison.com.

Be sure to include:

  • Artist’s name and contact information
  • Written description of the proposed mural design(s)
  • OPTIONAL: Rough sketch or depiction of proposed mural design(s). We may ask for a rough sketch upon reviewing the written descriptions.
