Wisconsin and Big Ten teams will continue with helmets as only protective equipment allowed at practices

It's not full speed ahead for Big Ten  football programs. The conference released a statement on Saturday saying teams will remain in the "acclimatization period" of practices. Teams are allowed to use helmets as their only piece of protective equipment until further notice.

Some programs around the league opened preseason camps Thursday and Friday.

The Badgers are scheduled to open camp on Monday.

The Big Ten said football programs will remain in the initial phase based on advice from its COVID-19 advisory groups.

NCAA rules state that teams must begin practice with the first two days of without pads before moving forward. The Big Ten says programs will stay in the initial phase for now.

Wisconsin is scheduled to host Indiana on Friday September 4 at Camp Randall Stadium.
