Madison Police arrest man after armed confrontation with vehicle thief

MADISON (WKOW) -- A man was arrested after he shot toward his vehicle as it was being stolen from him in Madison, according to police.

MPD said they were called to the PLS Check Cashing Store in the 1900 block of South Park Street Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. for reports of shots fired.

Authorities said a 30-year-old man found his stolen vehicle with someone inside, so he confronted the suspect. When he got close enough he could see the driver had a handgun in their waistband.

The owner ran back to his car and got a gun from his center counsel. At the same time, the stolen vehicle was being driven away. The owner fired at the vehicle multiple times.

MPD said the vehicle owner was arrested for 1st degree recklessly endangering safety and carrying concealed weapon violation.

No injuries were reported, and the stolen vehicle has not been found.
