JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- The Rock County Public Health Department announced that they had released their own mask mandate Thursday as state leaders battled over the statewide masking order.

Health officials announced the order Thursday afternoon on Facebook.

"Face coverings are a proven, effective way to slow the spread of COVID-19 especially when used by the entire community," health officials wrote. "Please remember that wearing a face covering is not a substitute for physical distancing."

Health Officer Michelle Bailey has issued an order today requiring individuals in Rock County to wear face coverings...

The order applies to everyone over the age of five and takes effect immediately. It is set to expire on May 5, 2021.

This mandate is separate from the statewide masking order put in place by Gov. Tony Evers earlier today.
