MADISON (WKOW) -- A new report shows output from UW-Madison is to thank for about 9% of Wisconsin's $345 billion economy.
NorthStar Analytics found UW-Madison is responsible for more than 230,000 public and private sector jobs. That's the equivalent of one in 13 jobs in the state and puts the university on par with major Wisconsin industries like dairy, food processing and tourism.
"That impact is felt in every county in the state and is told primarily in the private sector. UW-Madison is and has always been committed to helping the state and its residents move forward, solve problems and improve quality of life," said Charles Hoslet, the vice chancellor of university relations at UW-Madison.
The report also showed taypayer support in UW-Madison had a major return on investment. For every dollar invested in the university, more than $26 is put back into the state's economy.
