FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- Police arrest a Fitchburg man after a months long drug investigation.

The Fitchburg Police Department Special Response Team and the Sun Prairie Police Department Special Response Team made an arrest after receiving a search warrant and conducting a search at an apartment in the 2100 block of High Ridge Trail early Thursday morning.

Officers found around 12.5 pounds of marijuana, a stolen handgun with an extended magazine and ammunition, and over seven thousand dollars in cash in the apartment, according to Fitchburg Police Department.

The Fitchburg Police Department began the investigation in late 2020 after receiving reports of repeated drug sales happening in the main entrance of the apartment building.

Authorities arrested Eric Ranson, 23, of Fitchburg, booking him into the Dane County Jail on tentative charges of possession with intent to deliver THC/marijuana, receiving stolen property, maintaining a drug dwelling, and felony bail jumping.

Police said much of the information they receive came from concerned community members who were able to anonymously share. They are reminding the public that safety is best accomplished through an active partnership between law enforcement and the community.
