MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison schools have canceled all in-person competitions and events through April 4 as part of a phased approach to returning students to district fields, pitches and diamonds.
The announcement came in a press release from the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) Friday.
Under WIAA plans, many fall sports that had been canceled were supposed to get alternate spring seasons to give students the chance to play yet this school year.
All traditionally fall sports had set start dates for February and March. MMSD's decision moves their own start dates back indefinitely. The school district said it would make a decisions about when in-person sports activities could resume by March 26.
A decision for when spring sports will be able to begin in-person activities will be made by March 12, the district said.
WIAA set start dates for traditional spring sports between April and early May.
This is a developing story.
