1 arrested with possible hazardous device in Beaver Dam

BEAVER DAM (WKOW) -- Beaver Dam police are investigating after finding a potentially hazardous device in a person's backpack Saturday.

The Beaver Dam Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious person near Kelly Circle and Riverview Drive around 2:45 p.m.

When officers arrived, they were able to talk to the person.

Officials say they found a potentially hazardous device inside the person's backpack when they searched it.

The department took the person in for questioning and called the Hazardous Devices Unit of the Dane County Sheriff's Office for assistance.

According to authorities, the HDU was able to safely remove the device and destroy it in a safe location.

Police said the person was later arrested and taken to Dodge County Jail.

Law enforcement is still investigating the incident but assures the public there is no longer a threat.
