DEFOREST (WKOW) -- A year ago, the DeForest boys basketball team was one win away from a trip to the WIAA State Tournament when the pandemic ended their dream season. On Saturday, that dream will become a reality as the Norskies make just the second state appearance in school history.
"It feels great," says junior guard Deven Magli. "Last couple years we made a lot of history in this school and for this town. It's a great feeling."
Several members of the team helped the Norskies claim the 2019 State Football Championship. They are once again finding postseason success on the court. DeForest started the year 8-5. They have since won eight straight games.
"The last time we lost, the game after that we said in the huddle before the game, 'Undefeated road to State'. That's what we said, and we said it at every game, every practice since then, and it just came true," says junior guard Max Weisbrod.
The Norskies earned the No. 4 seed in the Division 1 field. That means they have a date with No. 1-seeded Kimberly in the semifinals on Saturday at 10:45 a.m.
"We're going to have to play really good basketball," explains Magli. "They're obviously a very good team, and they're probably expecting to win. So, we're going to have to show them what's up."
