UPDATE: Madison Police investigate shooting on near east side

UPDATE (WKOW) -- The Madison Police Department is investigating after a crashed SUV was found abandoned on the near east side of Madison with bullet holes in it.

MPD was called to the intersection of Hoard and Pawling Streets at about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday for reports of gunshots in the area.

When officers got there, they found an unoccupied SUV with damage that looked like it was involved in gunfire. Authorities said there were multiple spent casings located at the scene.

Officers were not able to find any of the people involved in the incident. The investigation is ongoing.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Right now there is a heavy police presence on the city's east side on Hoard St.-- this is east of Packers Ave. and south of Commercial Ave.

Our crew at the scene reports police are taking photos and investigating a scene that includes a vehicle that crashed into a tree. The SUV was towed away from the scene a short time later. Our crew reported bullet holes could be seen in the windshield.
