SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) — Photographer Jennifer Anderson likely had no idea that her photograph of a firefighter and newborn twins would become a lasting tribute to the young father, his family and community.
Cory Barr, a lieutenant with the Sun Prairie Fire Department, died Tuesday, July 10, 2018 in a gas-main blast that leveled multiple buildings downtown.
But several years ago when Barr and his wife, Abby, had twins, the went to Anderson’s studio, Angelic Angles Studio for a portrait session.
The photograph was taken July 13, 2015, and the Barrs have been back to the studio each year on their birthday, Anderson said. Anderson said the family was in the studio most recently June 26 for family photos for the twins third birthday.
Sadly it was the last professionally taken photo that will show the whole family.
The photograph of the twins as babies shows Barr from the back holding the two on his shoulders.
They are dressed in firefighter outfits, one on each shoulder.
After news of the blast and Barr’s death, Anderson posted the photo on the studio’s Facebook page.
"Our hearts are heavy today as we mourn the loss of an incredible man, husband, and father," Anderson wrote, "It’s obvious by the outpouring of love his family is receiving today how many people Cory Barr touched in his life. Our prayers will continue for Abigail Anne Barr and her sweet girls as they grieve a terrible loss. To all of the first responders on site last night, and those in our AAP family outside the responding area – THANK YOU! No words are adequate to express our admiration and gratitude for those of you who run towards danger to selflessly save others."
