MIT study: Lasers could help earth attract aliens

CAMBRIDGE, MA (CNN) — Researchers say attracting aliens to earth could be as easy as leaving a very large “porch light” on.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology released the image pictured above, along with a study by MIT researchers. The study suggests the light from a laser could spark interest from extraterrestrials — if they exist.

The powerful laser would be focused through a telescope aimed toward space. That may produce a light strong enough to stand out from energy produced by the sun.

The study’s author acknowledged it will be no easy feat, but says it’s not impossible.

He says the lasers needed for the project have already been invented, but they still need a large enough telescope.
