Madison teen arrested after trying to steal gaming console, threatening police

MADISON (WKOW) — A 15-year-old boy was arrested after a Facebook Marketplace sale went sour, according to the Madison Police Department.

Authorities said the incident happened in the 4700 block of Cottage Grove Road at about 7:30 p.m.

The victim, a 25-year-old man, was selling a gaming console, games and other electronics online. The suspect said he wanted to buy them and they arranged a pick-up.

The victim brought a friend with him to the exchange. The suspect said he needed a ride to get money to pay for the items. The victims took him to Vernon Avenue.

Once they arrived at the Vernon Avenue location, the suspect grabbed the the items and tried to run. The victims were able to catch him, but the teen reached for his waistband, implying he had a gun.

The victims called police and they were able to track the boy down through Facebook information.

When police went to arrest him, he threatened to kill officers while resisting arrest.

He was arrested for armed robbery, theft, battery or threat to law enforcement and resisting.

Authorities are reminding the public that it’s best to conduct business transactions in safe locations, like MPD district stations.
